Now you've seen it: it's possible to do exactly what you want. It's also possible to defend yourself against your mind's fabrication of interest in activities that have no value to you as a person, but have value as defined by society's notion of a career - those activities that you engage in solely because of the latter point. You need to re-evaluate why you choose things. When choosing what to do, you need to use your past experience with personal regrets to project a month, a year, five years in advance: will I enjoy this commitment then, and if not, why am I marching straight ahead into it?
Remember those who do this well. Follow their lead.
